About this set: The largest set ever when released with 340 cards, the 72 OPC set includes the first cards issued of the WHA in short printed quantities in the 3RD series high numbers , and the first cards of expansion teams NYI and the Flames. Although no real big money rookies in this set, there are over 20 rookie cards, including Rene Robert, Craig Ramsey, Dan Maloney, Rick Kehoe, Andre Dupont, Ivan Boldirev, Jim Schoenfeld, and goalie rookies of Jim Rutherford, Phil Myre, Gilles Meloche, Dan Bouchard, Ron Low ... and the '72 set is jam packed with star cards. A great reminder of '70s hockey when many star players were in their prime ... Bobby Orr, Bobby Clarke, Bobby Hull, Cournoyer, Dryden, Lafleur, The Espo brothers, Plante, Keon, Park, Mahovlich, Henderson, Perreault, Mikita, Sittler, Horton, Richard, Cheevers ... and more in this colorful set loaded with star power. The difference in supply from 1ST to 3RD series cards makes this OPC set somewhat "different" with 22 double printed cards in each of the 1ST and 2ND series and over 50 tough to find SP cards in the 3RD WHA high numbered series. The master set includes a couple of variation cards and five different checklists ... and of course the typical OPC "butter knife" cuts are as much a part of this set as any by OPC ... especially in the 3RD series short printed WHA cards ... making the set quite a challenge to complete in high grades. Great front design with yellow stripe "hi-lighting" player name and team logo, the NHL cards have the team logo on the right side and WHA cards have team logos on the left side. The card backs feature the long forgotten "personalized cartoon sketch" and player info. On top of it all, playoff cards featuring game stats from every game of the finals, attractive all star cards, including the popular Orr/Park horizontal, a set of trophy cards, the Bruins Stanley Cup winning team card and "IN ACTION" cards with game action shots of most star players all adds up to a great OPC set.
