The 1961 Topps baseball set might not be the toughest mainstream Topps set of the 1960s, but it certainly is one of the more popular ones. Filled with an array of stars, including great specialty cards, the 1961 Topps offering is very appealing. The Roger Maris #2 and Mickey Mantle #300 card are the keys to the set, as expected, but there are also many other interesting cards that reside in the set. A high-numbered All-Star subset, containing many of the era's stars, is one of the attractive features along with a very tough MVP series that is located in the late-400's. Other specialty cards like World Series Highlights, combo cards and even cards featuring career highlights from the likes of Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig are also included. The cards numbered 523-589 are very tough and various Short Printed cards are scattered throughout the set. Key rookies like that of Hall of Famers Billy Williams and Juan Marichal are also important. Perhaps the most noteworthy condition obstacle is the existence of print "snow" in the dark backgrounds of the cards. All in all, this set is very desirable. To read an in-depth article, click here.
