The 1934 Goudey baseball set not only offers one of the most visually appealing sets in hobby history, but it also features three of the most legendary cards ever produced. The three legendary cards include the two Lou Gehrig examples (#37 and #61) and the first card in the set, slugger Jimmie Foxx. The portrait of Gehrig (#37) is a true classic with the batting pose of Gehrig (#61) offering another beautiful image at a slightly lower price. The #1 Foxx card is one of the most highly sought after cards in the pre-war market. It's a #1 card, which makes it very condition sensitive, and it features the most powerful right-handed slugger of the era. Many experts actually feel that this set is more aesthetically pleasing than the 1933 Goudey effort due to the choice of colors of the front. While it doesn't have the star selection of the 1933 set (including no Ruth cards) or the size, it does offer the collector a more feasible chore. With only 96 cards in the set, it is less than half the size of the 1933 (239-card) behemoth.
