Taking My Hacks: Chicago – What a Sports Town

Taking My HacksSports are a part of the American fabric but, in some U.S. cities, the teams and the players are cherished on another level. We have areas like Boston and New York City, Los Angeles and the Bay Area, but it’s possible that no one town can rival the all-around sports strength of Chicago. The Cubs, White Sox, Bulls, Bears and Blackhawks have all contributed to the sports scene and a host of stars have helped fill the seats over the years. As PSA heads towards Chicago this week for another collectibles show, Joe Orlando takes a quick look at how Chicago stacks up against other sports towns across the country.

Billy Williams Player Sets – Collecting the Unheralded Cubs Legend

Autographed BaseballsBilly Williams is one of the more overlooked sports stars from the Chicago area. Williams, a Hall of Famer who possessed power at the plate and the ability to hit for average, was named the NL Rookie of the Year in 1961. In Chicago, where he played most of his career, Williams never had the chance to play in the postseason. In fact, he never had the chance to play in the World Series for any team. This 6-time All Star and 1972 batting champ was a consistent player for most of his career. In the following article, we explore this legendary Cub’s career in cards.

Dpeck100 – The Number One Current Finest 1982 Wrestling All-Stars Series A Set
You could argue that, when it comes to wrestling, the 1980s might be the Golden Age of the "sport." Yes, we just put the word "sport" in quotes because we are fully aware that this extremely popular form of entertainment is staged. That said, the level of athleticism shown by its combatants and the abuse these men put their bodies through should not go unnoticed. The critically-acclaimed movie The Wrestler, perhaps, captured that best. Love it or hate it, the world of wrestling produced some enduring characters from that decade. Andre the Giant (a tough #1 card in high grade), Hulk Hogan, The Junkyard Dog and Ric Flair are just some of the memorable names from the genre. This year’s award-winning 36-card set ranks #1 on the All-Time Finest list with a GPA of 9.56, and this collector has really helped create awareness of this fan-friendly subject.
