PSA Q & A Question: Is it still possible to achieve a high-grade on a 1948 Leaf Bob Feller despite the inherent condition problems?Answer: In short – yes – but it is very difficult. The 1948 Leaf Feller is not only a short print, which makes it harder to find than most other cards in the set, it is also plagued with condition issues. Poor centering and print defects in the background are commonly found on examples of this card. The card is also always out of register to some degree. None of the Feller cards have a razor sharp image of the great pitcher; it was simply a defect that was consistent on all the Feller cards manufactured. Some exhibit slightly better registration than others but none of them are terrific. In sum, it may be very difficult to find high-grade Feller examples due to the challenges listed – however – they do exist since some of the higher grades allow for some tolerance of print issues... especially where it is common to the specific card.
