The highest graded 1948 Leaf trading card of Pro Football Hall of Famer Bobby Layne sold for $27,618 in Memory Lane Inc's football-only Big Game Auction II on Saturday night. The Layne card was part of a robust collection of high-grade vintage football cards that sold in the auction, which generated over $280,000 in bids from collectors across North America. The 1939 Play Ball set is one of the most important sets in the hobby and the strength of the set lies, primarily, with one card - the sole Ted Williams rookie card. PSA Q & A

Question: Is it true that Joe DiMaggio refused to sign items related to Marilyn Monroe?

Answer: Well, at some point during his life and post divorce, DiMaggio decided to not sign items related to his former wife. That said, he did sign some items during their relationship. In fact, a baseball signed (by both) during their relationship sold for almost $200,000 a few years back. In addition, some hobbyists tricked DiMaggio into signing Monroe items. For example, some dealers would conceal the Monroe-related item by folding or covering the content in a unique way, so DiMaggio couldn't see what we was signing. In other cases, DiMaggio was asked to sign blank items like paper or canvases. After DiMaggio would sign, the owner would have an artist draw or paint images of Monroe on the piece. So, while they are fairly scarce, these items do exist as a result.
