COLLECTOR'S CORNER
PSA Q & A Question: How much does performance affect value when it comes to collectibles?Answer: Obviously, performance can have a major impact on the value of collectibles, particularly in sports, but popularity is much more important. Now, granted, in order to reach a certain level of popularity, you often have to be very good at what you do. That said; there are many examples in sports and non-sports where the popularity of the person outweighs their accomplishments. Most people think Willie Mays was a better player than Mickey Mantle but there is no comparison when it comes to the value of their collectibles. Was Elvis Presley really one of best singers of all-time? Were Marilyn Monroe and James Dean truly great actors? Sometimes, individuals become icons and their legend grows even more over time... despite the fact that others may have been -- technically -- better. There are many factors that come into play.
