Jeffrey Gitomer - The Number One Current Finest 1939 Play Ball - Basic Set
The Play Ball run of 1939-1941 is one that most collectors are familiar with. While the run was brief, Play Ball produced some of the hobby's most important cards. It all began in 1939... a black and white set anchored by one of the most important rookie cards of all-time... the first card of Ted Williams. In addition to Williams and a popular card of Joe DiMaggio, there are several Hall of Famers throughout this 161-card issue. This particular set is the finest group ever registered, carrying an excellent set rating of 8.56. Click here to enjoy.

PSA Q & A

Question: If a corner comes to an exact point, does that mean it is a "Mint" corner?

Answer: This is a great question. A corner may come to an exact point and still not be mint. For example, the corner may have damage to the top layer of paper or the corner may have a slight bend to it despite the tip being unharmed. In addition, there are certain types of cards that were manufactured without razor sharp, pointed corners. Examples of that can be seen, on occasion, on rough-cut cards in various sets or in specific sets like the 1959 Fleer Ted Williams set from time to time. In the case of the 1959 Fleer set, sometimes, the corners can remain mint despite not appearing extremely pointed.
