PSA SET REVIEW

1968-69 O-Pee Chee Hockey Set: Still "Big" After 40 Years
The 1968 O-Pee-Chee hockey set is one in a long line of popular hockey issues that ran from the late-1960s through the early 1990s. Anchored by a few early Bobby Orr cards (most notably the #2 card in the set) and a key Bernie Parent rookie card, this set offers a nice selection of stars and Hall of Famers. This 216-card set is susceptible to the typical O-Pee-Chee condition obstacles, which makes it appealing to the collector who seeks a real challenge. In the following piece, we find out why some hobbyists are drawn to this classic set. More...

How Much Is It Worth?
There's no doubt that more information is available to collectors today than ever before but figuring out what certain collectibles are worth can be more challenging than one thinks. Some collectibles are mass produced or available in significant numbers while others are extreme rarities. You know what they say... a collectible is worth what someone is willing to pay for it. As cliché as it may sounds, there's a lot of truth to that statement. In the following piece, Joe Orlando discusses the reality of collectible valuation. More...

PSA Q & A

Question: Is a vintage signature always considered more valuable than a more modern signature of the same person?

Answer: The vast majority of the time -- yes -- simply due to scarcity. You can often see the dramatic change in a person's signature over time; it tends to evolve but the earlier version is often the one that is much more difficult to locate. Most athletes tend to sign more frequently later in their careers or after their career is over so the market becomes saturated with the later version of their autographs. There can be exceptions where the later version becomes more desirable because it becomes recognized as the more aesthetically pleasing version and it may become more recognizable as that athlete's autograph. Most of the time, however, the scarcity of the earlier example drives the value.
