1910-12 Sweet Caporal Pins P2 Set:
An Inexpensive Vintage Alternative
Most hobbyists grew up collecting trading cards. Along the way, they may have experimented with collecting
other types of sports items like stickers or coins but few of them may have ever considered collectible pins.
In the following article, we take a look at one of the most important pin issues ever manufactured -- the 1910-12
Sweet Caporal Pins (P2) set. Filled with most of the major stars of the day, these pins offer an affordable
alternative to many of the card issues of the era. The question is, while these pins may have been overlooked in
the past, will that lower price tag eventually disappear?

The Danger of Feeling Entitled
There's no question that, today, athletes enjoy a privileged life. Many of them are offered multi-million dollar contracts that
were simply unthinkable just a few decades ago. Some of them are flanked by their entourage and others are given every perk
imaginable. As a result our expectations of them as it relates to their performance on the field and their behavior off the
field have increased dramatically. While all of this may be true, is it fair and is there a danger to feeling entitled as
collectors? In the following piece, Joe Orlando offers his opinion of this issue of hero worship and expectation.

PSA SET REGISTRYSM SPOTLIGHT
Bigjimmi's felt backs - The Number One Current Finest 1950 Topps Felt Backs Football Set
This 125-card set, while obscure to some, is one of the more interesting and significant vintage football issues in the hobby.
Containing some of the best college football players of the day, this unique issue also contains some future pro football Hall
of Famers (Lou Creekmur, Leo Nomellini, Ernie Stautner and Doak Walker). Most importantly, the most valuable card in the entire
series (Joe Paterno) is the only card to ever feature the college coaching legend. This award-winning set was the first to reach
completion, and has overall set rating of 6.75. Very Nice!

PSA Q & A
Question:
I am really interested in collecting vintage Negro League items but I don't see much to choose from. What are my options?
Answer:
Vintage Negro League collectibles can be extremely hard to find. Besides a handful of obscure card issues that feature
Negro League players like the 1950-51 Toleteros Josh Gibson, cards are virtually nonexistent. In addition, I cannot
remember the last time a piece of documented Negro League game-used equipment came up for sale. That being said, you
do have options. Some of the more popular types of Negro League collectibles come in the form of signed documents (such
as contracts) and original photographs. Some examples have sold for huge premiums since Negro League collectibles are
so hard to come by but at least they exist -- albeit in relatively small numbers.

What is the best way to describe how you feel the hobby will treat A-Rod collectibles over time?
- They will suffer a lot since he cheated
- They will suffer a little but they will recover since he apologized
- They will not suffer at all since he is an All-Time Great
- The jury is still out on A-Rod and only time will tell
