PSA Q & A Question: Is a rookie card always considered someone's best or most important card?Answer: As a general rule, this is the case simply because it is one of the more popular collecting themes in the hobby. Rookie card collecting of baseball, football or basketball players is something that many hobbyists enjoy. On the other hand, there are instances where non-rookie cards are considered more important or desirable than the rookie card of the same player. For example, Mickey Mantle's most important card is, without question, his 1952 Topps issue -- not his 1951 Bowman rookie card. Some people would argue that the most important Ted Williams card might be his 1954 Wilson Franks issue or his 1954 Bowman card, not his 1939 Play Ball rookie. While there may be exceptions to the rule, rookie cards are almost always where the focus is.
