PSA SET REVIEW
Bill Russell
Master Set: A Tribute to the Ultimate Winner
Bill Russell is the ultimate winner, plain and simple. In 13 seasons with the Boston
Celtics, Russell won 11 championships...an almost unthinkable number. As an amateur,
Russell won two NCAA titles and a Gold Medal in the 1956 Olympics. Wherever he played,
he won. Russell wasn't the most prolific scorer or the flashiest player in the league.
Russell helped his team win by being a true team player. Russell, one of the greatest
defensive players in basketball history, is not featured on many cards but the few
that carry his image also carry great demand.

Topps Baseball: Tomorrow's Vintage Set
The 1980 Topps baseball set is not one that receives a great deal of fanfare but
it is one that carried our hobby into the decade of the hobby boom. Pre-dating the
Donruss and Fleer invasion in 1981, the 1980 Topps set was the last regular issue
to dominate the hobby in baseball. Anchored by the Rickey Henderson rookie, a card
that is sure to join collections of baseball Hall of Famers very soon, this set
also has some condition obstacles. In the following piece, collectors share why
they still have a passion for this nearly 30-year old set, one that has often been
overlooked. More...

PSA Q & A
Question: Is a card like a 1952 Topps Willie
Mays considered a Topps rookie card for Mays even though he had a 1951 Bowman issue?
Answer: Great question. There was a time when
people would argue that cards like this Mays and even the 1952 Mickey Mantle were
rookie cards since it was the first Topps issue to include them. Perhaps it was
just another way to help market the cards better. Today, the answer is clear. Since
there was a regular issue to depict both baseball legends a year earlier, the Bowman
cards are the only ones that are considered true rookies. The Topps cards are great
and, in the case of Mantle, the card is actually much more valuable due to popularity
but it is not his rookie card.
