PSA SET REVIEW

1951 Topps Major League All-Stars: The most elusive post-World War II issue?
The 1951 Topps Major League All-Stars set, while one of the smallest sets of its era, is one of the most challenging issues for the collector. Rarely seen in any grade and a virtual impossibility in high-grade, these oversized gems can frustrate even the most seasoned hobbyist. In the following piece, we find out why collectors find this set so intriguing. Click here to read on.

Collecting Larry Legend
Larry Bird, through hard work and a competitive fire that went unmatched in his day, became one of the most recognizable figures in all of sports. Along with Magic Johnson, Bird helped the NBA reach new levels of popularity in the 1980s, as the Boston Celtics and LA Lakers battles for supremacy in the game. In the following piece, we focus on collecting cards of Larry Legend, a dominant figure in the hobby and the sport. Click here to read on.

PSA Set Registry Awards Deadline Postponed
The new V2 PSA Set Registry has been launched. Because we would like some time to resolve any problems that may occur and give members a chance to familiarize themselves with V2, we are postponing this year's PSA Set Registry Awards deadline from May 30th to Friday, June 13th. If you have a set that may be in contention, any updates must be made by 6/13/08 at 2pm PST. The awards presentation will still occur as planned at the PSA Set Registry Luncheon on Friday, August 1st at the National Sports Collectors Convention in Rosemont, Illinois. Email invitations will be sent out to all registry members approximately 6 weeks before the luncheon.

Change in Free Submissions Policy Effective 6/1/08
In order to qualify for free submissions, your set must be 90% complete. Should you qualify for free submissions, email your name, address and phone number to [email protected] with the name of the set and you will be mailed a submission form to be used exclusively for your free grades.

PSA Q & A

Question: Which set is better, the 1952 Bowman Large or Small football set?

Answer: Well, it depends on what you mean by "better." The 1952 Bowman Large football set has long been considered one of the classics in the hobby. The large format and colorful design make this one of the more eye-appealing issues in all of collecting. In recent years, the Bowman Small set has gained in value because collectors are finding that set to be even more difficult to assemble. In terms of scarcity, the Small set may have the edge but the Large issue remains a clear favorite in the hobby.
