PSA SET REVIEW

THE BATTING CAGE: Photo matching - is it the only step in authenticating?
When it comes to game-used bat authentication, there are several things that experts analyze prior to rendering an opinion. They check things such as shipping records, labeling and player characteristics. What about the impact of photography, particularly when a player is at the plate during a league game? In the following piece, PSA/DNA bat experts Vince Malta and John Taube discuss the affect of photos and how they can help even the most seasoned expert in the evaluation of a bat. Collecting Roberto Clemente Cards

In the following piece, we discuss the plethora of cards that depict this Pirate legend. Click here to read on.

PSA Set Registry V2
Work has begun on the Version 2 of the PSA Set Registry. We expect to launch sometime this Spring. The new program will allow you to track your inventory with price paid and source. You will be able to add multiple sets directly from your inventory. The addition of images will be much easier and the program will automatically adjust the size of your image for you. The Collectors Showcase area will be divided into categories and your showcase collection will be easier to locate. You will be able to post comments on other members' sets. Your PSA orders can be viewed within "My Set Registry" and you will be able to add new cards to your inventory, directly from the order screen. The program is based on the PCGS Set Registry (Coins) and the PCGS Currency Registry . If you have not visited these registries, we encourage you to do so.

PSA Q & A

Question: What is the difference between manufactured scarcity and true scarcity?

Answer: Manufactured scarcity occurs when a product is purposely created in limited numbers to enhance its appeal. For example, a card or autographed piece that is offered as "one of 50" or "one of 500". True scarcity occurs when a collectible is rare, not as a result of intent by the manufacturer, but as a result of the item surviving in limited numbers like a PSA Mint 9 1953 Topps Mickey Mantle or a Roy Campanella game-used bat. The Mantle card is scarce because so few in that condition remain and, in the case of the bat, so few of the bats - regardless of condition - have survived at all.
