PSA Q & A
Question:
At auction this fall, a Lou Gehrig check sold for about $40,000, which seems really high. Was there a reason for that?
Answer:
Yes. This particular check was a New York Yankee payroll check from Gehrig's rookie season endorsed on the reverse "Louis Gehrig". Now, it's true that checks signed only on the reverse are a little more challenging to display in a frame but the baseball-related content coupled with the dating to his rookie season made this check a hot commodity. Personal checks are wonderful, and tough to locate in Gehrig's case, but the content is what made this one special.
