PSA PLAYER SPOTLIGHT

Kobe Bryant: Devil or Darling, What's the Story?
By virtue of his natural talent, work ethic, inflated ego, quiet charm, warped social skills, perceived lack of team spirit, and what some see as a Doctor-Jekyll-and-Mr.-Hyde-like personality, Kobe Bryant embodies every element necessary for a good story. He is by turns praised and criticized, sometimes simultaneously. But even his sharpest critics recognize him as one of the greats of the game. Click here to read more about Kobe.

PSA SPOTLIGHT

Thurman Munson: Remembering The Captain From Canton
Catcher Thurman Munson was an unlikely but natural leader for the New York Yankees. His "behind-the-plate managing" and unshakeable confidence -- not to mention his .300 average and Gold Glove play -- guided the team back to winning form after several lackluster seasons. Sadly, Munson's great career came to an end when his private jet crashed in August 1979, but his memory lives on in his teammates and fans. Click here to read more about Thurman.

PSA Q & A

Question: Is there a difference in value between a Cassius Clay autograph and a Muhammad Ali autograph?

Answer: Great question. Since Clay autographs are certainly scarcer, they do tend to sell for a noticeable premium above the Ali versions. On the other hand, some autograph collectors prefer to own an autograph that represents the more common name. For example, some collectors would prefer to own a Kareem Abdul Jabbar autograph versus Lew Alcindor since more fans know the legendary center as "Kareem," not "Lew." The same can be said of other famous athletes who changed their name over time. In sum, the rarity of the previous name usually carries a premium with advanced autograph collectors but the average fan/collector prefers the latter. Both versions have their audience.
