PSA MARKET NEWS

Year's "Ten Most Dangerous Sports Autographs" Cited By PSA/DNA
There's less than a 50-50 chance autographs of Michael Jordan, Tiger Woods, Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig are genuine in the billion dollar sports collectibles and autographs marketplace, according to the second annual survey by PSA/DNA Authentication Services, the world's largest third-party authentication service for autographs and collectibles. PSA COLLECTOR'S CORNER

The Hottest Ticket in Collecting
In recent years, tickets for sporting events from the late 1800s through the 1970s have begun to emerge as one of the hottest new collectibles -- so hot that PSA has begun to grade and register them. Super Bowl tickets are emerging as some of the most desirable tickets among collectors. Click here to read more.

PSA PLAYER SPOTLIGHT

The Coming of Big Ben Roethlisberger
Hey, wait a minute! The 2004 season was supposed to be the dawn of Manning-mania in New York, or at least be the beginning of Phil Rivers leading the charge in San Diego. Instead, Ben Roethlisberger became the Cinderella story of the 2004 NFL season. Click here to read on.

SET REGISTRY SPOTLIGHT

Paul Fleetwood - The Number One Current Finest 1955 Topps Set
With over 60 sets registered and 13 of those sets completed, including Marshal Fogel's award winning set, Paul Fleetwood should be congratulated for reaching the #1 spot. His set was awarded "The Best of the Registry" in the 2004 PSA Set RegistrySM awards. This high rated set includes a large percentage of "Pop-Tops" (the finest graded) including Ted Williams, Hank Aaron and Willie Mays. Click here to view the set.

Important Notice Regarding Missing Spec Numbers
If you attempt to add a card and you receive a message that states that the card does not have a spec number in the set, this does not necessarily mean that the card is not in the PSA database. In most cases, the card is in the database, but the identification number (spec number) is not in the Registry. The spec number is the way in which the program identifies that the card is correct for the set and allows for automatic validations. When this message occurs, simply email [email protected] with the name of the set and the certification number and the Registry staff will add the spec number to the set. You will be notified when you can add the card to your set. There will be a high occurrence of missing spec numbers in player sets, HOF sets, and modern sets. In most cases, this is because there are many cards in these sets which have never been registered.

PSA Q & A

Question: Does "winning" really affect the market values of sports collectibles?

Answer: Absolutely. If you look throughout history, winning has played a huge role in the demand for sports collectibles. Players who have enjoyed great careers have never reached superstar status because of their team's lackluster performance. On the other hand, some collectibles have enjoyed huge upswing in demand due to the winning factor. For example, Derek Jeter (who is a very good player -- mind you) is one of the most popular players in the game because he plays for the Yankees -- a dominant franchise. Jeter's raw numbers are good but not great like an Alex Rodriguez or Barry Bonds, yet in the collectibles world, he is treated the same. If Jeter played for the Tampa Bay Devil Rays, I do not think you would see nearly the same demand for his collectibles. Being a team leader on a leading team is a huge plus. This also affects quarterbacks as well. Quarterbacks who struggle or struggled to win the big game are not treated the same as the guys who did win -- if all other things (statistics) are virtually equal.
