PSA MARKET NEWS

The Registry Keeps Rolling
Today, three full years into the PSA Set RegistrySM program, there is no doubt that the collectors have spoken and made it clear that The Registry is here to stay. Even as it continues to change how people collect cards and how cards are sold, it will eventually expand into other collectible areas, including tickets and autographs. The Registry has a bright future! Click here to read more.

Good news! If you're thinking about consigning material to an auction, Memory Lane announces a follow-up to its successful Buried Treasures Card Auction.
Memory Lane Inc announced that it is inviting Collectors to share in their success by being a Consignor in their next auction, scheduled for Spring 2005. Memory Lane's very successful Buried Treasures Card Auction in November focused on high grade, hard-to-find cards, and its realized prices surprised Consignors with the values that were brought. And its offerings surprised Collectors and Set Builders who were finally able to find really tough cards in very high grades. Everybody was a Winner. This week Memory Lane Inc. invites Collectors to take advantage of their no-fee and no-obligation "Material Evaluation" to see if your material has high-value auction potential. Just give them a call toll-free at 877-606-5362 or EMAIL them at [email protected]. Or just click here to get some excellent feedback on the auction potential of your material. All discussions are confidential. See ML's Vintage Card Store too. It's stocked with over 300 cards for online sale with new arrivals weekly. Visit www.memorylaneinc.com.

PSA PLAYER SPOTLIGHT

The BENCHmark for Greatness
The great Boston Red Sox slugger Ted Williams probably signed a ton of autographs in his lifetime. Of all of those signatures, perhaps, none carried a more prophetic salutation then the one he penned for a rookie ballplayer during spring training in 1969: "To Johnny Bench - A sure Hall of Famer." SET REGISTRY SPOTLIGHT

Quarterbacks Plus - The Number One Current Finest 1984 Topps Set
The Best Modern Football set for the 2004 PSA Set RegistrySM awards was the 1984 Topps Quarterbacks Plus set. This collector has completed this 396-card set in high grades. The #2 set is only 71% complete. Congratulations! Click here to view the set.

Important Notice Regarding Missing Spec Numbers
If you attempt to add a card and you receive a message that states that the card does not have a spec number in the set, this does not necessarily mean that the card is not in the PSA database. In most cases, the card is in the database, but the identification number (spec number) is not in the Registry. The spec number is the way in which the program identifies that the card is correct for the set and allows for automatic validations. When this message occurs, simply email [email protected] with the name of the set and the certification number and the Registry staff will add the spec number to the set. You will be notified when you can add the card to your set. There will be a high occurrence of missing spec numbers in player sets, HOF sets, modern sets. In most cases, this is because there are many cards in these sets which have never been registered.

PSA Q & A

Question: Is it possible for a baseball to remain an almost white or off-white color after decades?

Answer: Yes it is. Some people mistakenly believe that all baseballs turn in color over time but that is absolutely not true if the baseball is stored properly. There are some baseballs that turn over time due to poor manufacturing conditions (some of the American League Bobby Brown baseballs from the late-'80s are subject to inherent problems) and due to soiling from handling, etc., but you would be surprised that most can be preserved in very nice shape. The keys include, but are not limited to: avoiding excessive handling, storing the baseballs in a protective holder and/or out of direct sunlight, etc.
