PSA Q & A

Question: Is it true that sharpie signatures are harder to forge than ballpoint pen signatures?

Answer: According to most experts, this is the belief. The sharpie signature lacks the detail found on ballpoint pen or pencil signatures because the tip of the pen and way the ink flows is thicker -- preventing some noticeable details -- thus hiding flaws in the forgeries. While experts can tell the difference, these forgeries are certainly easier to get past the average collector. The same can be said of flats versus bats or balls. Generally, it's harder to forge an autograph on a round surface compared to a flat one.
