PSA EXPERT'S CORNER

Don't Shoot the Messenger
It's understandable to be upset when your sportscard or memorabilia item fails to make the grade or is found to be fraudulent, but why take it out on the authenticators? They're only telling you what you paid to find out. In this article, PSA President Joe Orlando explains how misplaced anger over authentication hurts the hobby. Click here to read more.

Important Notice Regarding Missing Spec Numbers
If you attempt to add a card and you receive a message that states that the card does not have a spec number in the set, this does not necessarily mean that the card is not in the PSA database. In most cases, the card is in the database, but the identification number (spec number) is not in the Registry. The spec number is the way in which the program identifies that the card is correct for the set and allows for automatic validations. When this message occurs, simply email [email protected] with the name of the set and the certification number and the Registry staff will add the spec number to the set. You will be notified when you can add the card to your set. There will be a high occurrence of missing spec numbers in player sets, HOF sets, modern sets. In most cases, this is because there are many cards in these sets which have never been registered.

PSA Q & A

Question: Is it true that a signed official MLB baseball is worth more if the ball is stamped with the league that the signer played in?

Answer: There really is no true rule but it is true that some collectors prefer to collect that way. For example, a Mickey Mantle signed AL ball is more desirable than a signed NL ball because Mantle played in the AL his entire career. The same could be said of Willie Mays, for example, since he played in the NL for his entire career. On vintage examples, the rules change a bit since there are fewer options but the appeal of the "same league" rule does apply there as well.
