PSA MARKET REPORT

Hunt Auctions Starts the Auction Season with a Bang
Hunt's annual late winter Important Sports Memorabilia and Cards auction brought outstanding results and record attendance. Less than 20 lots out of 1,200 went unsold. Rare Pittsburgh Pirates memorabilia, vintage sports advertising items, and the collection of former Brooklyn Dodger Clem Labine rounded out the sale. Click here for more details.

PSA PLAYER SPOTLIGHT

Love Him or Hate Him -- He's Still Mr. October
Reggie Jackson has been accused of being many things -- media darling, egotist, even bum -- but whatever you believe of him, there's no denying his place in baseball history or in the sportscard collecting hobby. This Sports Market Report article once again puts Mr. October in the place where he most liked to be -- the spotlight. Click here to read more.

PSA EXPERT'S CORNER

Autograph Analysis and Signing Habits of Hall of Fame Second Baseman, Coach, Manager and Executive Edward Trowbridge "Cocky" Collins
Not until recent years did a player come along and play more seasons than Eddie Collins. And not many have played better. He batted .300 eighteen times in his career, stole six bases in one game (twice!), and led teams to victory both on and off the field. Autograph expert James Spence, Jr. examines the strong career and the bold signatures of this brainy player. Click here to read on.

SET REGISTRY SPOTLIGHT

R. Clark's Favorite Hockey Set - The Number One Current Finest 1979-80 Topps Hockey Set
R. Clark's 264-card set is 100% complete with a GPA of 8.16 and is last year's "Best of the Registry" winner. This interesting modern hockey set contains cards of players from the four remaining WHA franchises that were absorbed by the NHL. The blue border is prone to chipping, so R. Clark should be very proud of this very high-grade award winning set he has assembled. Congratulations! Click here to view.

PSA Q & A

Question: I know that 1st and last cards in the set are often condition rarities because of the abuse they take. Why is it then that some cards in the middle of the set are as well?

Answer: Good question. Often times, a card that is in the middle of a run will suffer condition problems due to its location on the original sheet. For example, if a card is printed as the first or last card in a particular row -- that card may suffer from poor centering if the cutting process was off-center for the whole sheet -- usually left-to-right. Other times, a card may suffer from a print defect that occurred, repeatedly, in one particular area on the sheet.
