PSA Q & A

Question: What is the definition of a Rookie Card?

Answer: While there is no universal definition of a rookie card, the general understanding is that a rookie card is the first mainstream card offered of a particular player. There are debates about cards like the Update and Traded issues of the 1980s-present. For example, is the rookie card of Barry Bonds his 1987 Fleer, 1986 Topps Traded, 1986 Fleer Update or 1986 Donruss Rookies card? Currently, all of these cards are treated as such with the 1987 Fleer card enjoying the most widespread demand. The best thing to do is to ask questions to see what the hobby accepts -- in the end, that's all that matters because the collectors dictate demand.
