PSA PLAYER SPOTLIGHT
Autograph Analysis and Signing Habits of Hall of Fame Pitcher Charles Augustus "Kid" Nichols
There was no better pitcher in the 1890s than the Kid. Charles Nichols built up a .634 winning percentage, averaged 24 victories per year and pitched 50 shutouts. However, his Hall of Fame induction was a long time coming, meaning that most requests for the Kid's autograph came late in his life. Autograph expert James Spence examines the career and signing habits of this 19th-century fireballer. Click here to read on.

PSA Q & A
Question:
If a player is voted into the Hall of Fame by the Veteran's Committee versus the normal fashion, does it negatively impact the value of that player's collectibles?
Answer:
Not really, however, if a player had to be admitted through that route, it probably means that the player was a borderline choice to begin with. This may or may not be a factor in valuation because there are many players who are not in the Hall that are considerably more popular than players who are. Roger Maris, for example, is more popular than Don Sutton even though Sutton is a Hall of Famer with over 300 wins. Popularity always takes priority there.

COLLECTORS SURVEY
"You've got to accentuate the positive," or so the song says, but sometimes it's fun to talk about the negative. What was the WORST thing about the just-completed Super Bowl?
- The half-time show! Enough said!
- The overreaction to the half-time show! Talk about much ado about nothing!
- The commercials! Bad taste is becoming an art form in itself!
- The first 20 minutes of the game! It looked for a time as though the game would be a 0-0 tie!
- The final kickoff! After a brilliant comeback, Carolina gave the game away at the end!
Click here to answer. Results will be posted in the next Insider.
Results from last survey: 39% said that Pete Rose's confession was the biggest surprise (so far) of 2004. Click here for a complete breakdown.
