PSA VINTAGE SET REVIEW
The Beauty and Makeup of the 1934 Goudey Set
The 1934 set is one of the premier editions from the Goudey Gum Company. Nineteen of the 96 players depicted entered the Baseball Hall of Fame. Others had credible major league careers, while still others played briefly and were never heard from again. In this article, expert collector Marshall Fogel takes a close look at the 1934 Goudey set and the players featured within it.

SET REGISTRY SPOTLIGHT
Carlos D. Aponte - The #1 Current Finest 1972 Topps Football Set
We felt it only fitting to honor Carlos Aponte and his fabulous 1972 Topps football set in this week's PSA Insider for several reasons. First, Carlos has put together a set that now resides in the number one spot with a very high GPA of 8.75. This puts him well above last year's 2002 Set Registry award winner, John D. McLane. Second, every card features an image, which further enhances the set and makes it a sheer joy to view. And third, Carlos loves his set which is shown by his determination to continually upgrade to be the best. Click here to enjoy one of the nicest sets in the Registry.
Buy your Raffle Tickets and Contribute to a Great Cause!
Everyone at PSA and all of the forum members who know Carlos Aponte have rallied together in support of Carlos and his family in time of need. Purchase a raffle ticket for a chance to win 10 PSA gradings at the Regular Service level. Tickets are just $5 each. 100% of the money received will go to Carlos Aponte and his family to help pay medical bills. The raffle will be held on August 20th. To purchase your ticket(s), click here or e-mail bj@collectors.com.
Set Registry Grading Special! If you are collecting Vintage cards (pre-1975), you can submit your commons for $8 a card with a 15-day turnaround! There is NO MINIMUM required. Click here for details.
Reflections on the PSA Set Registry Luncheon at the National
The food was great. Joe Orlando, PSA President, and Michael Haynes, Collectors Universe CEO, gave outstanding reports on PSA and CUI. But the guests who attended made it all happen. The community which has grown up around the Set Registry is nothing short of amazing. Click here to read some of the comments made about the event. A special thanks goes out to Dan Markel (Dude) for providing some great images.

PSA Q & A
Question:
How does ticket grading differ from card grading?
Answer:
The basic structure behind both grading standards are virtually the same. The difference is that tickets are graded with a slightly less conservative standard because they were intended to be consumables, not collectibles. That doesn't mean that a PSA 6 in a card would be a PSA 8 on a ticket but there are slight variances when it comes to what is and what is not tolerable for a particular grade.

COLLECTORS SURVEY
Who is the best pitcher in baseball?
- Roy Halladay! Who else won 15 games in a row this year? Not the best ERA, but the man knows how to win.
- Kerry Wood! The strikeout leader has a $10,000,000 arm and he's learning how to finesse 'em, too.
- Kevin Brown! He has the best ERA in the majors. All he needs is a team that will score some runs for him.
- Pedro Martinez! He's far and away the best and this contest is over.
- Randy Johnson! Four Cy Young awards in a row. Yes, he's been hurt this year, but he's back and looking great.
Click here to answer. Results will be posted in the next Insider.
Results from last survey: A staggering 76% believe that Cy Young's record of 511 wins is the greatest of all baseball statistics. Click here for a complete breakdown.
