Jimmy Dygert (Turkey Red Back)
James Henry “Jimmy” Dygert (1884-1936) pitched for six seasons in the Major Leagues with the Philadelphia Athletics (1905-1910) and was a member of two American League pennant winners (1905, 1910) in his first and last years. In 1907, Jimmy enjoyed his best season in the mound going 21-8 with 151 strikeouts and a 2.34 ERA. Dygert won ten or more games in half of his years in the big leagues, but he struggled with control and led the league in hit batsmen and walks once each. Jimmy Dygert finished his career with a 57-49 record with 62 complete games, 16 shutouts, 583 strikeouts and a 2.65 career ERA. His career ended on a high note as the A’s beat the Chicago Cubs 4 games to 1.
