Felipe Rojas Alou (May 12, 1935-) is the eldest member of the legendary Dominican Republic Alou family, which includes his brothers Matty and Jesus, his son Moises, his cousin Jose Sosa and nephew Mel Rojas. Felipe played the outfield and first base for 17 seasons in Major League Baseball with the San Francisco Giants (1958-1963), the Milwaukee/Atlanta Braves (1964-1965/1966-1969), Oakland Athletics (1970-1971), New York Yankees (1971-1973), Montreal Expos (1973) and the Milwaukee Brewers (1974). In 1966 and 1968 with Atlanta, he led the league in at-bats and hits while batting over .300 both years. He was the most powerful of the Alou brothers blasting 206 career home runs, primarily as a leadoff hitter. Felipe scored the winning run against the Los Angeles Dodgers in their 1962 playoff game to reach the World Series against the New York Yankees. The Giants fell to the Yankees in a hard fought seven game series. Felipe was named to three MLB All-Star Games in 1962, 1966 and 1968. Felipe Alou batted .286 over hits 17-year career with 2,101 hits including 359 doubles, had 985 runs and 852 RBI. Following his playing days, Alou became the manager of the Montreal Expos (1992-2001) leading them to a first place finish in 1994 and earning the 1994 National League Manager of the Year Award. He left the Expos as the winningest manager in club history. He spent four years managing the San Francisco Giants and led them to a first place finish in his first season with the team (2003-2006). In 14 years as a Major League manager, he compiled a record of 1,033-1,021 in 2,055 career games.
