Profile

Aristotle George “Harry” Agganis (1929-1955) was originally drafted by the Cleveland Browns as the 12th overall pick of the 1952 NFL Draft assuming he would replace the aging Otto Graham at quarterback. Known as the “Golden Greek”, the All-American quarterback chose to finish school at Boston University and play first base for the Boston Red Sox. He spent 1953 with Boston’s farm affiliate in Louisville and made his Major League debut in 1954. He played one and half seasons with the Red Sox before he died tragically of a pulmonary embolism at the age of 26. Harry Agganis played 157 games in Beantown, batting .261 with 135 hits and 67 RBI. He also posted a career .989 fielding percentage as Boston’s first bagger.
