NEWPORT BEACH, CA--Professional Sports Authenticator (PSA) announced today that it has graded the first 1952 Topps Pee Wee Reese Gem Mint 10 since its inception in 1991.

"This is the finest 1952 Topps Pee Wee Reese card that we have ever seen," said PSA President Steve Rocchi. "This card is so clean it could be mistaken as being pulled from an unopened mint pack."

PSA grades the condition of sports trading cards on a 10-point scale; only ten 1952 Topps Reese cards in all grades have ever been graded by PSA. The 1952 Pee Wee Reese card is part of the first major set produced by Topps, consisting of 407 cards, including such greats as Mickey Mantle, Eddie Matthews, Yogi Berra, and Willie Mays. The Topps 1952 set is considered the most collected set of all time.

Pee Wee Reese played shortstop for the Brooklyn Dodgers. As a nine-time All-Star, he played in seven World Series and was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1984. Reese got his nickname as a young marble shooting champion (a "pee wee" is a type of marble).

This card was submitted on behalf of an anonymous collector by PSA Authorized Dealer, Levi Bleam of 707 Sportscards, Ltd. in Plumstead, Pennsylvania. "The quality and condition of this particular card is excellent. My suspicions were confirmed when PSA graded this card Gem Mint 10," said Bleam. "The PSA Gem Mint 10 grading has increased the card's value due to the rarity of its condition."

Established in 1991, PSA is the world's largest grading and authentication service of sports and non-sports cards. Cards submitted to PSA are examined by a minimum of three independent experts for grade and authenticity. All cards graded are based on the PSA 10-point grading scale, which is the standard throughout the trading card industry. Cards that meet PSA's grading standards are sonically-sealed in a tamper-evident holder. PSA will not encapsulate cards that bear evidence of trimming, re-coloring, restoration, or any other forms of tampering.

Since 1991, PSA has graded a total of 876,929 cards with a cumulative declared value of $151,298,072. PSA has been designated the Official Grading Service of the 20th National Sports Collectors Convention, which will be held in Atlanta, Georgia on July 18-25, 1999.
