Centennial, CO. - Mile High Card Company is pleased to kick off the New Year with its much anticipated 2013 Winter Premium Auction, a decidedly smaller and more exclusive event than the company's traditional auctions, which have averaged anywhere from $2 to $3 million in sales based on 1200 to 1500 lots over the past 15 years as the hobby's leading and most trusted clearinghouse for premium sports cards and collectibles. In a much-ballyhooed presentation the company will offer collectors an amazing opportunity to acquire many one-of-a-kind premium collectibles. Collectors familiar with the Centennial-based firm can expect to find the usual array of magnificent cardboard as well as some of the strongest pieces of memorabilia the company has ever offered, that will capture the fancy of enthusiasts. MHCC Principal Brian Drent, assessed the current offerings with an excited viewpoint, noting, "as a firm, we really are pleased with the material that is being presented within this catalog and I feel that some of the items offered are amongst the highest caliber of items recently offered within the hobby."

The memorabilia portion of the January Premium auction is as strong as MHCC has ever offered within this format of sale and is highlighted by the following items. Clearly one of the overall highlights of the current auction is a captivating offering of a spectacular and incredibly rare Babe Ruth and Al Capone Signed OAL (Harridge) ball that to the best knowledge of the auction house is the only example extant. The ball is consigned to MHCC from the families of Hall Of Famer Eddie Collins and Hall Of Famer Herb Pennock who originally obtained the amazing sphere. Eddie Collins' son Eddie Collins Jr., who also played in the Major Leagues for three seasons, married the daughter of Herb Pennock who had gotten the ball signed by the feared gangster and then asked his famed teammate Babe Ruth to sign the ball. The amazing orb has been a prized heirloom of the family and is being offered publicly for the very first time. The ball is supported by a great deal of amazing evidence that includes the following: A tremendous hand written account of the ball from Eddie Collins' grandson Pete Collins in which he relates an account of Miller Huggins reprimanding Yankee players for interacting with such an unsavory character such as Capone before a game. Also of note on the memorabilia side is a Spectacular 1927 Babe Ruth Single-Signed Ball With Exceptional Provenance LOA PSA/DNA, as well an impressive 1927 New York Yankees Reunion Team-Signed Ball Signed in the early 1940s with (11) Signatures Featuring Ruth, Gehrig, Lazzeri, Pennock, Bengough with a LOA from PSA/DNA that came from the Pennock family along with the Ruth/Capone ball is being offered, as well the sale includes an Exceptionally Scarce and Important 1967 Boston Red Sox American League Championship Ring that is being offered for the first time.
