1894 N302 Mayo's Anonymous (John Dunlop-Harvard) 1953 Topps Hal Newhouser #228

Clean Sweep Auctions opens 2013 with our 200th auction. That's right, 200 real auctions, running for the 17 years under the Clean Sweep Auctions name (previously Steve Verkman cards). The variety of items that we have sold over that period is staggering. Last year, 2012 was one of the best years ever for Clean Sweep Auctions. None of this would be possible without the support of our many loyal bidders and consignors - thank you.

The current auction starts with a terrific selection of Mayos. Also offered is the key Anonymous football card, a near-set of football cards and many football singles. From baseball, you'll find HOFers Anson, Brouthers, Clarkson, Duffy, Ewing, Hamilton, Tommy McCarthy, Wilbert Robinson and Amos Rusie, all in affordable collector grade.

There is also a great near-set of Mayo boxing cards listed with the other boxing cards.

Baseball cards continue with several 19th century HOFers, 1914 Cracker Jacks of Eddie Plank and Smokey Joe Wood, a 1952 Topps Mantle, many high grade 1953 Topps cards, including a graded near-set, and a 1955 Topps Clemente in a PSA 7 holder. Ungraded cards contain larger lots of T205s and T206s, a 1929 Leader Novelty set, many oddball sets, including 1951 and 1952 Berk Ross, 1962 Baseball Bucks and various Bazooka sets. You'll also find a run of Topps sets from 1956 - 1975 as well.

1953 Topps Cards

Baseball memorabilia is a highlight of this auction, including game used bats from Carlos Baerga including his 1995 World Series bat, and Cal Ripken and Kirby Puckett gamers. An early 1950s Eddie Mathews Adirondack bat is one of the best bats Clean Sweep has handled in years. There are some interesting 1929 Cubs memorabilia, and a rare 1958 Braves World Series ring.

Baseball autographs come next, with some great autographed cards, with near-sets loaded with HOFers and rarities, and quality single cards as well, including a 1963 Topps Ken Hubbs. Collectors of HOF flats will see Comiskey, Munson, two high grade Babe Ruths and a stunning Albert Spalding 3x5. Collectors of signed photos will see some desirable Burkes and many great multi-signed images with classic HOFers and stars.

One fairly unique run in this auction consist of hand-signed Yankee bats from 1985 - 1996, obtained in person at the stadium, many with George Steinbrenner and/or Billy Martin. These are so much nicer than the generic bats produced at mass signings.

For collectors of the other major sports, you'll see some rare 1950 Bread for Health labels near-sets from both basketball and football, some great Ali signed items and many very high grade early 1950s Bowman football cards, including some pop 1/1s. Football also contains a Barry Sanders gamer from the early 1990s and some high quality Goal Line lots.

Other items of note include a Thomas Edison signed document and a rare John D. Roosevelt signed 8x10. Entertainment autographs include a Humphrey Bogart cut and a George Gershwin signed check.

Autographed baseball conclude the auction with two Ruth singles, a Rogers Hornsby, a superb Elmer Flick and a superb Ken Hubbs. Team ball collectors will see 60 lots going back to the 1920s. Highlights include a 1923 Yankees, 1925 Giants, 1927 and 1928 Cubs, 1929 and 1931 Athletics, 1936 Yankees and a run of Yankee team balls from 1943 - 2000, with many tough years.
