After being flooded with concerned collector calls due to postal system catalog delivery problems, MEMORY LANE INC. has extended the closing of its auction to Saturday, December 15th, at 8 p.m. ET. Collectors can still get an auction Catalog by calling 877-606-LANE (5263) or by e-mail at [email protected].

Memory Lane Inc's late season auction features the great Christy Mathewson's Rookie Contract. Mathewson, one of the game's true pitching legends, pitched for 17 seasons amassing 373 wins -- tying him for third best win total ever in Baseball!

This precious Rookie year Contract was obtained direct from the Mathewson family by the famed collector Barry Halper. The Contract is the only Rookie year Contract from Baseball's Big 5 (the first five players inducted into the Hall of Fame) known available for sale to the public. The other Rookie Contracts of the fab five; Cobb, Ruth, Johnson and Wagner are in the "whereabouts unknown" category. Or, if they do exist, possibly these contracts are buried among the 2.7 million documents currently held in collections by Copperstown. In any event, the chance that they will be available for sale to the public is almost nil. The last publicly sold important baseball Contract of this stature to sell at a public auction was Babe Ruth's 1919 contract that sent the Babe from Boston to the Yankees; this Contract sold for $996,000 in June 2005. This Mathewson piece represents another one of those rare collecting opportunities.

The auction also features two other "never before seen at auction" Mathewson signed document lots. Both lots are rare Mathewson baseball documents pertaining to the period when Mathewson was President of the Boston Braves. These 80-year-old documents were obtained direct from the family of former Braves player Ernest Padgett. Padgett is famous for turning an "unassisted Triple play" in his second game in the Majors!

The first of these two lots offered is a Mathewson signed letter addressed to Padgett telling Ernest "big things are expected of him," and that he had better live up to, and makes sure he earns, his second year baseball contract that "President Mathewson" is giving him! The second Mathewson signed document lot is Padgett's Player's Contract, signed by Mathewson; and which is accompanied by Padgett's Spring Training Reporting Notice, which includes instructions for Padgett to meet Stuffy McInnis and Jack Kelleher at the train station for his trip to Florida. Great Baseball!

This auction also features some magnificent sets and near sets. A high grade 1911 T201 set with 19 HOF's! And, a 1964 Topps Giants set that is currently ranked second on the PSA Registry, and has an overall rating of 9.24. There is also a rare 1963 Topps complete set -- all 576 cards are PSA graded! This is an incredible collecting feat with Aaron, Mays, Mantle, Clemente, and all the 1963 issued greats in PSA 8's!

And the auction offers an unbelievable find and value. A 404-card, near complete T206 set all PSA graded. This set includes all four Cobbs, loads of HOF's, scarce and rarely seen reverses, and tough commons like Ray Demmitt.

See the entire auction online including over 200 graded 1933 Goudeys, (tough low numbers, and all four Ruth's), over 200 early vintage cards from 1887 to 1925 including Lou Gehrig's Rookie Card, and over 30 graded Turkey Reds including Ty Cobb. To register see or call 877-606-5263.
