Responding to frequent requests from collectors and dealers, Professional Sports Authenticator (PSA) will begin authenticating and grading unopened packs of sports and non-sports trading cards in 2006. A starting date for the new service has not yet been set.

"When the new service begins next year we will accept both vintage and modern packs for certification," said Joe Orlando, President of PSA.

"This is an eagerly-anticipated and necessary service for the hobby. Many collectors and dealers have repeatedly said they want the PSA brand for the assurance of authenticity and grade of the unopened packs they buy and sell."

Well-known and respected specialist, Steve Hart, owner of Baseball Card Exchange, Lynwood, Illinois, will be working closely with California-based PSA on the authentication of submitted material, according to Orlando. An Unopened Pack Set RegistrySM and price guide will be established after the new service begins in 2006.

"We now are designing a special holder to encapsulate certified packs, and we will publish PSA grading standards for unopened packs," said Orlando.
