NEWPORT BEACH, CALIF. -- Pre-1971 Wax packs and boxes led the Collectors Universe "Greatest Internet Sportscard Auction," commanding near record prices. A world auction record was set for 1972 Topps Strikeout Leaders cards, when an example in PSA Gem Mint 10 realized $1,302. The overall results in the Internet-only bidding exceeded expectations.

The strongest prices of the auction, overall, were for lots featuring unopened sportscards, included a 1961 Fleer Basketball Wax Box, which realized $17,000; 1986 Fleer Basketball wax box, $15,000; 1989 Score Football factory sealed wax case, $9,000; 1962 Topps Football Wax box, $5,120; 1948 Bowman Basketball wax pack, $4,000; 1968 Topps Football wax box, $2,101; 1984 Topps Football Rack Case (3 boxes), $2,000; and a 1972 Topps Basketball wax box realized $1,700.
