News of today's home run hitters often elicits a comparison with the stars of yesteryear. With Spring Training underway, both fans and players are preparing for a great baseball season. Speculation about Griffey, Sosa, McGwire and impending home run fever also inevitably leads to talk about Hall of Famers and other historic baseball players who have made the game memorable.

Special auctions that showcase rare items now give collectors the opportunity to own everything from autographed memorabilia to sportscards to complete their collections. Many collectors want to own a piece of history to help them recall the days when their favorite players commanded newpaper headlines and the attention of sports fans worldwide.

Superior Sports Auctions' upcoming sale on March 8-9 features every thing from sports cards, game programs and jerseys to advertisements, autographed baseballs and baseball bats. The full Superior Sports Auctions catalog is available on-line and bids will be taken by telephone, Internet, mail and fax.

Hank Aaron, baseball’s All-time Home Run King, hit an incredible 755 long balls in his day, more than any other player in the history of the game. An early career jersey, Aaron’s third in the major leagues worn during the 1956 season with the Braves, will be available to collectors. One of only two known 1950’s Tomahawk game-worn jerseys will be available in Superior’s March sale.

Another game-worn jersey in the sale is a Joe DiMaggio signed 1969 Oakland A’s home flannel coaches jersey. An authentic DiMaggio autograph is on the jersey’s neck. This jersey comes with a letter of authenticity from Grey Flannel that states it is an authentic, unaltered, game used and from the Barry Halper Collection.
